Our Story

But Mummy, where does the Laundry come from?

The Laundry was set up in 2003 because when small businesses in central London were looking for recycling services, there was NOTHING out there to suit them. BioRegional, the sustainability charity that runs The Laundry, teamed up with London Recycling, the biggest family run recycling company in London. We created the first kerbside recycling service in London, all the rest are copycats. Since then, we have grown from collections for a few customers in SOHO on Thursday afternoons, to a full time collection crew with 1500 customers spanning central London, all the way from Mayfair to Shoreditch.

Serious bit from The Laundry’s parent charity – pay attention!

The Laundry is part of BioRegional an entrepreneurial charity, which invents and delivers practical solutions for sustainability.

BioRegional:

BioRegional’s aim is to lead the way to sustainable living – through practical demonstration.

Today, BioRegional is among the UK’s leading environmental entrepreneurs, developing pioneering sustainable communities, products, services and production systems – and establishing them as successful role models. BioRegional’s solutions for sustainability are designed to enable people to enjoy a high standard of life, while living within their fair share of the Earth’s resources and leaving space for wildlife and wilderness.

BioRegional is best known as a partner in BedZED – the largest sustainable community in the country (that’s where the Laundry lives) – please do come and visit us at BedZED – our colourful home.
