The Laundry nearly wins an award but doesn’t, however we do have (almost) famous customers which must count for something

COLLECTION CREW OF THE YEAR… WELL ALMOST

Yesterday, the Laundry West-End collection team (Bob, Osei and Erick) were to be found sipping Champagne in suits in The Savoy, a world away from their usual get up of high-vis vests, drinking Benjys coffees in the Laundry truck. The event was the letsrecycle.com Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management and they were one of three finalists for Collection Team of The Year. Unfortunately they were pipped to the post by a team from Daventry District Council who pick up recycling from farms and isolated cottages, which sounds like a bit of a holiday compared to negotiating narrow Soho streets and cabbies. But they did brilliantly to get into the final three and a fabulous time was had by all.

LAUNDRY CUSTOMERS ON THE JOHN PEEL SHOW UPDATE

You may remember that last Thursday was John Peel day and I was asking if any Laundry customers had been in bands that were played by John Peel and we were delighted to discover 4 bands with links to John Peel and The Laundry.

The Pop Group: “yes, we have an ex-member of The Pop Group working here who were played by JP on a number of occasions. In fact, I remember hearing JPeel play them when I was a kid, and now I sit opposite the bassist” http://www.discogs.com/artist/Pop+Group,+The

The Fairies Band: “I’m not sure if he ever actually played our stuff on the radio but a mutual friend gave him our CD and a couple of weeks later he came back saying he thought it was cracking - does that count?!?!” Yes Gaby, I think that counts. Incidentally, The Fairies Band are playing in the Camden Barfly tonight. Gaby has emailed me a flyer so if any of you are interested let me know and I will forward it to you. www.thefairies.tk

Julian who is a Laundry customer was in both bands, and both did sessions for John Peel.

And finally this band were not played by John Peel but Julia is a Laundry customer and Luke went to see them and said they were really good. www.secondperson.co.uk
