The Weather

After my hols I’m feeling particularly English and prompted by glorious and rare sunny day let’s talk weather:
So the sun is shining, great let’s learn more interesting things about the thing that gives us a tan/wrinkles, shall we? Let’s.
In 15 minutes, the sun radiates as much energy to Earth as the world’s population consumes in all forms, during an entire year
The Sun’s energy output is estimated to be 386 billion, billion megawatts. Blimey
Now for the good news
New research suggests that sunshine may reduce the risk of many forms of cancer, such as breast and prostate cancer, but no sunbathing with no suntan lotion naughty laundry people.
Sunlight stimulates the pineal gland in the brain. This produces certain chemicals called ‘tryptamines’ which improve our mood.  I’m definitely feeling sunny, bu dum che.
On the flipside:

Did you know that there are on average 30 tornadoes a year in Britain, who’d have thought it?  The BRUM one last year was a very dramatic, but what caused it?
John Kings is a University of Birmingham meteorologist who has been studying the city’s weather for 25 years and said he had never seen anything like it.

“It is by far the worst I’ve ever seen, I remember the October 1987 hurricane but nothing of this particular intensity,” he said. “From a meteorological point of view it really was quite fantastic. It shows what weather can do, but I did see a lot of damage.” He said the tornado was caused by the severe thunder storms crossing the country, growing in intensity until they reached south Birmingham. As a result very warm air and cold air mixed together and started to spin. As the hot air rose, known as an updraft, the cold air coming across it caused it to rotate, with increasing wind speeds this created a funnel cloud which reached down to the ground and caused the damage.

“The air had gone up, it had to come down and it came down on Kings Heath and Balsall Heath,” Mr Kings said.  Wise words
