Keep an egg in your pocket (just in case)

On this day 1970: The Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, has been hit in the face with an hit by flying egg.  The raw egg, thrown at close range, hit him on the forehead and bounced onto his jacket where it broke. Edward Heath when asked about the incident said:   This was a secret meeting on a secret tour which nobody is supposed to know about. It means that men - and perhaps women - are walking the streets with eggs in their pockets, just on the off-chance.”
IMAGINE that, brilliant, I’ve often wished I had an egg to hand for a impromptu pelting, who else has been pelted?
Former Ruth Kelly, education secretary was hit by an egg in February this year.   Miss Kelly tried to dodge the man with the egg, but he smashed it into her hair.  A man was arrested by police. Afterwards she said it is just one of those things that happens when you’re a (rubbish?) politician.
Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was hit in March 2000. A spokes person said “The two pranksters were apprehended. The secretary was not hit seriously and continued with her duties,” he said. He quoted Mrs Albright as saying: “We got up too early for breakfast, so these are our eggs”. Eh?
Former Home Secretary Charles Clarke subject of an egg attack in Yorkshire February 2005. Mr Clarke was visiting a youth drop-in centre in Thirsk when an egg was thrown at him by demonstrators. He said “Had I seen it coming I would have headed it.” surely it the sensible thing would have been to cup it Lacross style in one of those ears!
hey hey hey lets not forget John Prescott in the 2001 election campaign.  Heading for a meeting, Mr Prescott was hit by an egg thrown by a protester. His reaction was to throw a punch and hurl himself at his attacker. He said it was an instinctive reaction and he was quickly forgiven by Tony Blair, who said: “John is John and I’m lucky to have him as my deputy.”   “Two Jags” briefly became “Two Jabs”, bet he wishes it was still that, eh?
