New Year’s Revolution

There weren’t very many of us in the office yesterday- seems lots of people were very clever and booked off the 2nd for generous recovery so we decided to head up the road to The Goat our local pub for some haute cuisine; plates of scampi, toasties, cheese and pickle sandwiches with ready salted crisp garnish, that sort of thing.  It was a sunny day, full of hope and the promise of the New Year ahead, we chatted about what sorts of resolutions everyone had decided on this year.

Jess (ex-Laundry manager) had a couple of delights up her sleeve to entertain us, her friend Kev has decided not to die this year- sounds a good idea to me, though you have to wonder what sort of specific actions you could take to affect the probability in the short-term (not standing too close to the edge when trains pull in?) Another of her friends, Sophie, is going to ‘not be a celebrity this year’- perhaps that means an end to indulging paparazzi, no more sleazy nights at China Whites and quashing desires for parading around in oversized sunglasses? Jess is more pragmatic wanting to learn a couple of tunes of the piano and to clear her overdraft. Rachel (the lovely) has a kind of overall strategy in mind: ‘Careful living’, which on questioning she explained as moderating excessive behaviours. I like it, it’s nice, it covers all bases without, you know, pegging you down to something unattainable like no more cakes and no more booze!

Amanda says her boyfriend’s resolution is to spend more money!! I don’t think this one would do me many favours, already a bit of an over achiever there.  I have one, but it’s a bit of a quiet one not uttered for fear of cursing myself- the rebellious beast within seems to have a problem with keeping promises to myself when other people are in on it- lets suffice to say it’s a dirty habit that’s got to go! Let me know what yours are- any takers for the gym, a spot of Spanish language learning, a tee-total January, a love quest even?

Anyway, Happy New Year Launderers!
