I’ve just been invited to a Mad Tea Party! Alice in Wonderland theme with all the trimmings!

Not only do you get a lovely cream tea, it seems you can dress up and go crazy too!

think tea, alice in wonderland, fairy tales, dotty mushrooms, surrealism, over the top, stripy, happy….tea…

YAY and I love tea with lots of CREAM!

My friend went to a chav party a few years ago and it was brilliant! She sent photos round and everyone was dressed up in trackie bottoms, trainers, lots of gold chains and caps. Alot of burberry/adidas/nike was worn!! Think Vicky Pollard!!!!!

You can have a fashion car crash party - So its a competition as to who can come the worst dressed - you get some great photo opportunities! (A prize always adds a good incentive)

Or, you have a decade party - you tell people which era they have to come from ( ie 1940s, 1990s etc) and they have to bring a playlist from their decade. - onl really works if you have mates that aren’t trying to be too cool - plus a lot of my friends like to think of themselves as DJs (house party ones anyway) and would not appreciate N Sync at any party… come to think of it I’m not sure how I’d take it either.

You’ve got me thinking about my birthday party now - you’ve made my morning a lot better, cheers!

My friend had an oscars night for her 30th with a red carpet and everyone had their picture taken infront of a massive curtain with lots of stars on it (nice momento for her to look back on) , you could also give out oscars for best dressed / worst dressed.
alternatively I normally have a barbetail (as my birthday is also in June) which is as it sounds a barbecue / cocktail party, whats nice about this is all the non drinkers/drivers can also have fancy mocktails with umberellas and bits of fruit.

My esteemed colleague has some excellent ideas…

She once went to a ‘Come As Your Roots’ party which was interpreted in all manner of costumes, including a man who came as his dead grandmother (complete with headstone)…!

Another was a ‘Touchy Feely’ party where a girl came in a little black dress with a furry square on her bum…

Or how about a ‘Teeny Tiny Hat Party’….

I went to a ‘non speaking’ party once. Very interesting to see how people communicated without saying a word. Was the best party in terms of lots of dancing too!

I had an ‘underground’ theme for my birthday party last year and some folk came as tube stations, (my sister and her fella as Knightsbridge in full knight attire connected by a lolly-stick bridge in which they navigated via public transport from Clapham to Hackney), one lass as a member of the French Resistance and my fave - an all-red-and-foil ensemble for magma!

What about having a letter party? Like a ‘p’ party. Pond, pirate, paparazzi, pilgrim?

my friend wants to get married and have a woodland creatures theme. she said i could come dressed as a squirrel about which i was very happy. my boyfriend decided he’d like to go as a fox and claimed this involved no dressing up whatsoever!!!

Tube stations is a good one, although you need to be quite imaginative for some of them (there’s a surprising number of easy ones though!) Tube stations should stop all those trying too hard to look sexy people in their tracks too.

My favourite dressing up party was simply titled ‘France’. It made for an interesting array of onion wearers, burlesque girls, French terrorists, red windmills and a male Amelie Mauresmo.

If the weather is still like this have a shorts, t shirts and sandals party. (sort of beach party but no beach…) Award a prize for who has the funkiest/brightest/most hideous ensemble. Its really easy, everyone can do it (boys and girls) and its funny.

Ok, so I may not have looked pretty, but it definately was bad taste. Jess (ex-Laundrette) has a problem with people that use fancy dress as an excuse to look good. People who come to Hallowe’en parties as “sexy cats” grr - I say be as silly as poss. I got really annoyed with my friend who came to a bad taste party as Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, until I saw a great big syringe sticking out of her chest, brilliant.
