This month, it’s the Dominion Theatre, currently showing the Queen inspired musical ‘We Will Rock You’. Down in our database as ‘super green’, the staff at the Dominion recycle everything they possibly can as well as using recycled and reclaimed products throughout the theatre. Staff are encouraged down the recycling path through presentations, emails and posters. There are big ambitions for expanding their activities next year, even down to finding a way to recycle or reuse the bottle tops produced by the bar. There’s some impressive statistics too: in 2005 their efforts diverted a whopping 30.2 tonnes of waste from landfill.
Don’t think these efforts have gone unnoticed! Apart from the ultimate accolade of becoming a Laundry Recycling Hero, The Dominion Theatre has recently won the London Mayor’s Extra Mile Award for Innovation in Creating a Sustainable Workplace. We’re super proud of them, particularly as their adventures in the land of recycling started way back in 2003 with some little blue Laundry sacks. Mighty oaks from little acorns grow, and now the Dominion is a true hero in the world of recycling.
(If you’re inspired by the work at The Dominion, have a look at London Remade for more information on the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code, which encourages businesses to purchase goods made from recycled materials. The Dominion is signed up, and so are we at The Laundry! My pen used to be a computer printer).
If you think your business has been particularly heroic in the world of recycling recently, we want to know about it! Send us an email at recycle@thelaundry.biz or give us a call on 020 8404 6330, we’d love to chat about your green habits.
